boring break

Me Show... What?
Today is the last day of the semester break (not including the weekend, okay) before I hit the high road for the external exams. I can't believe I'm in September already. How fast the year has passed me by. Autumn is here and what have I got to show for my nine months in college? Nada. Nothing. Zero. Zilch. Besides lazing around in front of comp/tv screens and on my bed.

Nothin' New
I'm not terribly sorry that the break is going to be over. I'm actually quite glad it is. One week of boredom even with extra classes. Yup, classes that all had a stifling air of tedium. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. Not even yesterday's blast in front of the Australian Embassy across the Straits in Indonesia was out of the ordinary. Those who didn't see that coming must have been blind or asleep in their web of make-believe. As for the PM Badawi's Budget, I don't think there'll be any surprises although I'll be pissed if he introduces VAT which means my imported hedonistic musical stuff will all see an increase in price. Aargh. What more with the exchange rates so very high. The pound sterling vs. the US dollar (to which our RM is pegged) I mean. The rate should drop after the US presidential elections I think.

September
Sigh. September seems to be a month of disasters. Nothing new. It is the time when "autumn leaves start to fall" (duh!), and disastrously for Malaysia, the leaves don't fall. They already do all tropical year round. Let's see, the recent string of typhoons/ tornadoes/ hurricanes are proof of September being disaster month. Then that bomb blast. Also that Russian"No.1 School" hostage crisis. And if VAT is introduced, then, yeah, that's another. Oh, the recent case of bird flu near the Malaysia-Thailand border. The hazy situation. The upcoming AS trials. And oh, September is that sick month that unleashed a monster named Nicholas Aw into this world. Quite disastrous I must say. This is an incomplete list. Till I compile some more disasters...

New(1 + s)=New News...not
Went for Betty today. Did some silly experiment where we had to heat a salt to make in anhydrous. XSO4.7H2O it was before heating. Then we were made to find the molar mass of the element "X"... it was supposed to be around 23... I was so bored that I was happy that I got 25. Right. Happy. Okay, I was totally bored. Had Wei Zi's miscalculation to keep me slightly entertained. Also had Venetia's new "short" hairstyle to keep me a little distracted.

Was so bored that I finally came to a marvellous conclusion: CGL girls show more skin than MGS girls. In the Jan/Mar KDU A-Level intake. Except for cglian Amrita. And mgsian Lyn. Otherwise the rest mostly conform to the skin conclusion. Wait till they make it a Law like Newton's silly Laws of Motion. Or make it a Law in the form of our very own Ms.Law. Whatever. I saw Easaw sitting on a see-saw. Oh, do excuse my bored-out mind. I'm just so bored.

Interesting Incidents
To say that the whole break was boring would be a lie. It would be too absolute.

1. Of personal interest and excitement was the flurry of exchanged SMSes between P. and myself. P. was most probably bored (I apologise for putting words in P.'s mouth; maybe I should put other things?) but anyway it was an interesting way to break the boredom of the boring break. God! I'm startling to ramble. P.'s a very nice girl once you get to know her. Quite thoughtful actually unlike what some people make her out to be. And very likeable. Loveable? De-lovely. Apa-apa sajalah. Because P. says she doesn't believe in love. Sigh.

2. Discovered modern indie singers Barbara Rosene and Christian Josi. They have okay voices for covering the old song material they like and I am going to try to hunt down more than just audio samples. But I must say Josi's phrasing, timing and feel for rhythm is not as good as any of the old masters or the younger big-label jazzifiers of my generation.

3. Read in the papers about a couple of cow/cattle thieves the authorities nabbed. It seems the cow catchers used a converted Toyota Unser to transport their bovine buddies -- and two other converted national cars know for their compact size and economical price whose names I forget. Well, if the cows didn't fit, their feet were just hacked and slashed off by their cow-nappers. Grisly but interesting in the way killer grizzly bears are.

4a. Wednesday's GP class. I can't believe I'm saying this but the class was hilarious. Something made me bring up the issue of the overturned lorry-load of pigs and my fellow classmates laughed themselves pink as pigs till class ended. And there was that joke I shared with Suresraj about imagining a pig reading the newspaper on a toilet bowl. I forget why that joke was funny... but it was.

4b. All that was after mdmKhoo, the GP-not-a-witch-according-to-Pin-lecturer, illustrated graphically to the class (and red-faced male students) how she expels colostrum and milk from her human udders. The girls in class seemed more serene about the whole udder-ly "obscene" issue. Whatever. But I must note that one particular fella in class was quite interested in knowing how mdmKhoo tasted her own fresh milk (yep, mdmKhoo did taste it, and thinks it's too raw for her liking, and that babies suck whatever because they know nuts). And no. He wasn't being dirty about it. That fella really wanted to know. Why? Because you can't get anybody more bapok-like than he is! You know who.

Bleeding Bored
I still am so bleeding bored. That's why I'm typing this here entry.

Yesterday, I was so bleeding bored (after Maithrea called up; he should have chatted longer) that I actually called up someone I used to know. In the words of Andy Williams singing "Can't Get Used To Losing You":

"...called up some girl i used to know,
after i heard her say hello,
couldn't think of anything to say..."

Except I managed to talk for a short period of time. When reality checked I realised I had spent 2 hours of my precious boredom on the phone discovering that people you used to know don't change much over time.

Blog-Break

Back
Checked out other blogs and I see that Lyn has put the lyrics of "My Happy Ending" by Avril Lavigne on her blog. Only reason I highlighted that is because it's my youngest bros current fav song and because love is just so like that. Sigh.

Bye!
Now I must be off to the land of sighs. Oh, wait. "Nash Bridges" is on. I kinda liked the trailers they were showing over Astro and I think I should check today's episode out. See how boring my life is?

Theme Song

In Love In Vain
(Leo Robin & Jerome Kern)

[click on the "play" button to hear
a low-res version of this song
by Dick Haymes & Helen Forrest. best played with mp3PRO decoder]

Love can be a blessing,
But also most depressing,
And I don't mind confessing
That I feel mighty Blue!

It's only human for anyone
To want to be in love
But who wants to be
In love in vain?

At night you hang around the house
And eat your heart out
And cry your eyes out
And wrack your brain.

You sit and wonder
Why anyone as wonderful as she
Should cause you such misery & pain
I thought that I would be in Heaven,

But I'm only up a tree
Cause it's just my luck to be
In love in vain!

LOVE, n.
1. A temporary insanity curable by marriage or by removal of the patient from the influences under which he incurred the disorder. This disease, like caries and many other ailments, is prevalent only among civilized races living under artificial conditions; barbarous nations breathing pure air and eating simple food enjoy immunity from its ravages. It is sometimes fatal, but more frequently to the physician than to the patient.
- Ambrose Bierce

2. A man's insane desire to become a woman's meal-ticket.
- Gideon Wurdz
