ponderable pictures of my irish life
"Park Views"
On the way to Dunnes Stores from classes at Earlsfort Terrace. Shortcut between these two points is the picturesque St. Stephen's Green (Park) where these shots were taken. Of housewifey interest, I bought 4 legs of chicken and a 500g packet of vege. Of motherly interest, it was raining rather heavily when these shots were taken. But don't worry, heavy rain in Dublin is of a different definition when compared with Malaysian heavy rain. 'twas more like blowing sheets of medium-to-fine drops of water.

"...when autumn leaves start to fall..."

"a bridge with a view"

"view fr bridge #1"

"view fr bridge #2"

"a cosy cove"

"ducks! on rocky outcrop"

"3 ducks in a row, swimming(duh!)"

"king duck!"
nah. duke duck? nah, just one duck picked on by this pgrapher in the rain... note raindrop on camphone's
lens. the water looks oily, ya? it is actually crystal clear, cam was angled to get reflection.

"Irish Tricolour"
blazing reds and gangrenous green surrounding the pond alive with ducks
"from a dublin bus"
These following pics were taken on the No.10 Bus which I boarded at the Huguenot Cemetery. Its last stop is inside
UCD's Belfield Campus, hence my not minding the (short) walk (in the rain) from St. Stephen's Green Mall to the
bus-stop outside the (small) cemetery. Bracketed are these shots, by the bus's interior.

"contemplation"
an unknown subject gazing at the red lights... subject seems at ease (note: earphones for music), oblivious
to the suffocating rain and traffic outside. (suffocation represented by fogged up windows with an exterior
environment which is all too bright in contrast with the dark, cosy, welcoming interior... note also vehicles
headlamps and brakelights)

"At the bus stand"
innocent view from behind window panes sort of shot. an all too garish yellow umbrella in this overexposed
shot represents good. contrasted by devil black umbrella on right, obviously representing evil

"At the Red Light"
notice how the steel bars of the chairs seems to be from the view of a chin rested on the closest, strongest
one. this adds to the sense of contemplation the artist has on the red light. adding to the effect is the long,
contemplation-inducing name

"Solitary Lamp/Empty Heart"
view of stillorgan road outside UCD's Belfield Campus. note gloominess of day. exposure of photo adjusted to
give overall dark overtones. fogged up window that has been wiped unevenly adds to gloom
the following three sets were taken under rainy conditions too
"Stop!"

"stop!"
as all 3 individuals did at this red light... taken at crossroads near merville residence, UCD, Belfield,
Ireland. i seem to be taking lots of red lights... must be an artistic thing in this gloomy weather. see the open
space on the right of the pic and the cluttered view on the left? note tht the traffic light says "stop" to the ppl
headed for the crowded side of the pic
"Painter's Picture"

painter's picture... of some spot on the UCD campus. this pic is untouched, unedited!!! just that my nokia
3230's cam at full 3x digizoom tends to muck things up - in a nice way though! this take reminds me of "Salisbury
Cathedral" by that talented (dead) artist, John Constable
"Solitary Set"
Continues gloomy atmosphere of final shot of "from a dublin bus"

"Solitary Man"
shot intended to give feeling of loneliness. no visible signs of walking and talking humans. solitary bike
and lamppost add to emptiness. of more instructive interest: view of merville's first block of apartments... my
apt's located on the left wing (in pic)

"haunted house"
my room's the fourth from right of the arch, on the topmost floor. again, artistically, intended to give
gloomy lonesome feeling. use of solitary streetlamp adds to effect.
"Unseen (Bright) Horizon"
Taken while safe and sound in the stairwell of my apartment.

view of courtyard, from landing of 2nd floor... the floor on which my apartment/room are located. UCD's Belfield
campus.
note: these selected pictures from my gallery that I deem worthy of gracing my blog. The rest can be found on my flickr page, where they tell my journey from Earlsfort Terrace to Dunnes Stores to my apartment on campus - in reverse. That's because I have my flickr arrange the latest shot first. Below are links to my flickr pages:

Splurging Cash On - Alpen! WTF???
"Less haste more Alpen..." said the guard,
As I whacked the window hard.
My bag was left on the train,
Never to be seen again.
"...'tis the fool who always rushes,
Take some time and save those blushes."
Now I've time for finer things,
Like all the pleasure Alpen brings.
No more flustering mistakes,
Just golden, crispy, wheaty flakes...
...and oats that give me a great start,
They help promote a healthy heart.
Delicious raisins so sublime,
Sweet and juicy every time.
And all those yummy roasted nuts,
Are good for me, no ifs or buts.
So how could anyone be hasty?
With something so completely hasty?
What a lovely way to start the day... there I go rhyming, after an Alpen climbing. Well, if you all must know, I just spent €5.84 (EUR5.84 to you folks if that symbol renders incorrectly) on a 1.5kg packet of Alpen. That's quite a lot of money for something packed like dog-food. But trust myself, Alpen was delicious in Malaysia and almost as expensive too. Of course things in Ireland tend to more expensive, Dublin being the self-proclaimed runner-up in the highest-priced place in Europe.
Well, take a look at my Alpen:

Just Me and my Alpen...

...strolling down the Avenue...

...taking a look at the bill I've got...

...oh what a shock for the lot!

What I did at age 19 on the 19th of the 9th month in Ireland:

Now, now, what could this be? Oh, A Feast For One!

Close-up... Mmmmm... what a delicious aroma! Well done STRIPLOIN steak with red wine and herbed butter!

Jacket potato, too! All in all a yummy steak... Down the hatch of chef le cordon bleu Nicholas it'll go.
Cheers to all back home!

Why do people
make promises they know they can't live up to? In the business world it's to
cheat. To make a one off sale. But how many times do I have to be let down
before I decide on breaking that single most important promise? Fuck.
All that's been a
cursory examination of my current situation.
Anyway,
Sunday, August 15th
Celebrated my
grandma's birthday. Small affair. Didn't even know it was her birthday. Don't
think it even falls on Aug the 15th. I'm not apathetic. Just not a very birthday
bash sort of person. More for small intimate styled events. Ba-ba-ba-bum.
After that, I
spent the rest of the day in Prangin Mall scouting around for a suitable phone
for myself besides getting a good bargain for Lyn's phone. Squeezed those poor
buggers till they made a profit of only RM10.00 off the sleek black Nokia 6260
Lyn bought.
Well, with so
much time to waste, since I'm not getting what was advertised, what the fuck do
I care? Time just flies by. Might as well spend it honing my bargaining skills
instead of being let down all the fucking time.
I suddenly
realise that I've been helping the other get herself in order to the total
neglect of myself. Here's a list of things I have yet to do (incomplete of
course, like everything else):
-
get myself a
h/phone before the Moto RAZR V8 is released
-
find out the
PMC semester length
-
(so that I
can) book the flight tickets
-
buy a
notebook/laptop/desktop-replacement laptop
-
copy my data
over from my PC
-
pack for my
trip to PMC
-
learn how to
cook a proper Chinese meal instead of concocting western dishes without a
recipe
-
make myself
happy once there (PMC)
Oh, ya I should
spend more of my time with people who'd appreciate it more, i.e. my bros,
parents, some dumb blonde. Do correct me if I'm wrong, eh?
Right now,
though, I'll be spending my time with Lyn. Here's a tongue-in-cheek visual of
what I had to go through to get her to wear the sleeveless Nike Golf Dri-Fit top
to Van's party on Sat night,

Van's Farewell Party
"What a
swell party this is/ What drinks on rocks/ What girls, what broads!"
A liberally
rehashed verse from "Well Did You Evah?" that takes my hat off to Van for a
splendid party. Perhaps I'm a bit drunk as I write this so nothing makes sense;
but then again nothing I write makes sense to anyone, not even myself. Do take
note that I had a coupla' of drinks at Van's. Oh, but they were cocktails, so no
worries about me downing stiff shots of vodkas.
Damn! Just
realised I don't have pics of the prezzie(s) Lyn and I gave Van. Suffice to say,
it was very, very, very LyNick'd.
Everyone seems to
be reminding me that I'll be leaving Malaysia soon. That in itself rattles Lyn.
Hmm, I must say that I haven't prepared for my trip yet. Haven't bought the
plane tix nor have I banged three broads at one go yet...
Is it a good
thing that I am leaving so soon? I mean I haven't really settled down in this
r'ship with Lyn though everyone seems to think we're so domesticated already.
Yeah, even Michelle, a friend of Van's said we didn't look like we were together
(ahem! as though we'd snuggle and snog in front of Van's parents). I guess
that's what happens to husbands and wives. Bloody lack of libido in some people,
right matey?
Oh, there was a
show of extreme taat setia ("loyalty", to all youse non-Malay speakers)
that even a King would envy from Nat Lau Tan towards her bf in Aust. How sweet
it is to be...
...with Lyn on a
6-mth hol. If only her parents would let her take a hol with me in Ireland while
she waits for her entry into Manipal. Van thinks it is a swell idea. Swollen
headed me (down under) and my better half are toying with the idea.
Lalalalalalalalalalalalalalala. I am reminded that some people always let me
down after making my hopes rise tsunamically. Double crud!

A song I should
have dedicated to Lyn -- --- --------. The lyrics are meaningful, albeit
idealistically so, but as usual the melody would bore the heck out of anybody
nowadays. Sigh.
Only Forever
Bing Crosby
(Monaco, Burke)
20 wks at #1 in
1940
Do I want to be with you,
As the years come and go?
Only forever,
If you care to know.
Would I grant all your wishes,
And be proud of the task?
Only forever,
If someone should ask.
How long would it take me
To be near if you beckon?
Off hand I would figure,
Less than a second.
Do you think I'll remember,
How you looked when you smile?
Only forever,
That's puttin' it mild.

Song
In Love In Vain

(Leo Robin & Jerome Kern)
[click on the "play" button to hear
a low-res version of this song
by Dick Haymes & Helen Forrest. best played with mp3PRO
decoder]
Love can be a blessing,
But also most depressing,
And I don't mind confessing
That I feel mighty Blue!
It's only human for anyone
To want to be in love
But who wants to be
In love in vain?
At night you hang around the house
And eat your heart out
And cry your eyes out
And wrack your brain.
You sit and wonder
Why anyone as wonderful as she
Should cause you such misery & pain
I thought that I would be in Heaven,
But I'm only up a tree
Cause it's just my luck to be
In love in vain!
